Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Complete is multiplatform computer protection software with good performance and features as well as a device-management console that provides more functionality than is typical for protection software. It also stands out in that a subscription includes 25GB of online backup space. With one license you can protect up to five devices, any combination of PCs, Macs, Androids and iOS devices.
Out of the 10 best computer protection software products in our review, only Webroot was not present during the Windows tests conducted by the AV-Test software lab during January and February of 2015. Webroot explained to us that because its Windows security component highly leverages cloud technologies, it does not lend itself to some current lab testing methodologies. We do, however, have test results for Webroot’s Mac and Android components, where it performed well.
In terms of features, Webroot’s Windows component provides 25GB of online backup space so you can ensure your files survive a catastrophic event to your PC. Only one computer security software competitor provides as much storage. Some of them include no online backup at all. Webroot also includes a file shredder because simply deleting a file does not actually remove it from your hard disk where it can be picked up by file-recovery utilities. Another feature that promotes secure behavior is Webroot’s included password manager. Compared to some competitors, Webroot does not include parental controls or antitheft features in the Windows module.
This software did quite well in AV-Test's Mac security tests in March 2015, although not as well as the best. During on-demand malware detection it found 92 percent of malware test samples. (On-demand scanning operates on files that are not actively in use.) There was also an on-access portion of the malware detection test. On-access scans involve files that are in use by the system. Webroot achieved 83 percent detection rates during on-access malware detection tests. The Mac module includes antiphishing and a password manager but not parental controls or online backup.
The mobile components are quite strong. In Android malware and usability tests conducted by AV-Test in March 2015, Webroot turned in excellent results. Android features include an application advisor, antitheft, call blocking and antiphishing. It does not include parental controls or a password manager. Webroot supplies a couple of iOS features: antiphishing and a password manager.
From the management console you can see the status of your device installations for PC, Mac and Android. The application goes beyond most of its competitors by providing a centralized multi-platform dashboard that lets you control some features. Most all-in-one internet security competitors limit the online account management console to managing subscriptions and antitheft features. Webroot’s dashboard lets you scan your Mac and PC for potential issues.
Webroot provides good help and support during generous weekday hours via telephone, online chat and email. Twitter support is also available. An automated agent dispenses instructions and troubleshooting tips. Helpful videos are online along with answers to frequently asked questions, user guides and release notes.
With good performance and useful features, Webroot makes our list of best computer protection products for individuals or families running devices with more than one operating system. The management console provides more functionality than most competitors. One license protects up to five devices, which is about average for products of this sort.
The account management dashboard provides more feature functionality than usual in this product space.
Help and support is not available 24/7.
If you don’t require integrated parental controls, Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Complete is an affordable and efficient way to secure multiple devices running different operating systems.
