To address the growing market for multiplatform computer protection software, Trend Micro offers Titanium Maximum Security. The product modules for Windows, Android and iOS are quite competitive in terms of features and performance. However the Macintosh module is not as good as Trend Micro’s other modules.
Trend Micro is one of the computer protection software brands that AV-Test included in its February 2015 test results. It achieved 100 percent malware detection rates without slowing down its host PC to any noticeable degree. Furthermore it did a good job at avoiding confusions between malicious files and perfectly benign ones.
The Windows module in Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security sports a competitive list of security and convenience features. Three of its features are present in every all-in-one internet security product in our lineup: antiphishing, malware detection on removable media and suppression of alerts during full-screen applications. However you will also find parental controls, a password manager, file vaults and a Windows Registry cleaner. It also has 5GB of backup file space and a file shredder to completely eradicate deleted files. Absent from Trend Micro’s Windows component but present in some competing products are: antitheft features and a rescue mode to boot a PC that has succumbed to infections.
Unfortunately Trend Micro did not dominate at AV-Test during computer security tests on Mac OS X in August 2014 and March 2015. It did poorly at Mac malware detection and slowed down its host Mac more than its competitors. The Mac component does not support antiphishing. However it does contain a password manager and parental controls.
The mobile modules turned in excellent scores for malware detection and usability when AV-Test conducted tests during March 2015. An app advisor alerts you about apps that want to take too many liberties with your privacy. It can block calls and help you manage passwords. It also supports antiphishing and parental controls. iOS features include antiphishing, antitheft and password management.
From the Trend Micro account dashboard, you can manage all subscriptions in one place. For example you can check if anything has expired and renew or convert a trial version. You can also update account details.
The support webpage is organized well and contains tutorials and useful advice on important topics. Product guides are available as PDFs. To reach support you can call, email or chat online. For a premium you can call a hotline 24/7.
We include Trend Micro among our list of the best computer protection software because a single license can protect up to three devices. Its Windows and mobile modules are quite competitive, more so than its Macintosh module. Some of Trend Micro’s competitors provide more online backup space and 24/7 access without charging for premium support. However it provides a few uncommon features such as parental controls and a password manager.
One product license protects up to three devices.
It does not excel at Mac malware detection.
Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security is very good on Windows and mobile platforms.
